Hey, Your House Is On Fire

A Pomfret, Connecticut man was so into the music on his iPod that he didn't know his house was on fire. A fire official said the man was listening to music Thursday afternoon when a fire started on the upper floor of the man's house. According to a local fire official, the man didn't even smell smoke or hear the smoke alarm. After receiving an alarm company call, the man ran upstairs and shut a door to a burning room. Firefighters soon arrived and quickly put out the fire. Only the exercise room and an adjoining office were damaged.

Topless Cafe In Maine

Vassalboro, Maine – Cup size has more than one meaning at a new central Maine coffeehouse. Servers are topless at the Grand View Topless Coffee Shop, which opened its doors Monday on a busy road in Vassalboro. A sign outside says, "Over 18 only." Another says, "No cameras, no touching, cash only."

On Tuesday, two men sipped coffee at a booth while three topless waitresses and a bare-chested waiter stood nearby. Topless waitress Susie Wiley said men, women and couples have stopped by.

The coffee shop raised the ire of dozens of residents when it went before the town planning board last month. Town officials said the coffee shop met the letter of the law.

Mad at disgraced investor Bernard Madoff? There's a toy just for you. One of the vendors at this week's Toy Fair is offering the "Smash-Me Bernie," a $99.95 Madoff lookalike doll that wears a devil-red suit and carries a pitchfork. It comes with its own hammer — so you can pulverize it. Phoenix, Ariz.-based ModelWorks is behind the caricature Mini-Me figures, which can be customized to look like celebrities or whomever a buyer chooses.

Burglary Victim Steals Thieve's Van

A Washington State man decided to keep burglars from stealing his three flat-screen televisions by himself stealing the thieves vehicle. Patrick Rosario was at home in Bellevue and heard noises upstairs. He quietly moved outside where he saw a white van in front of his house and called 911. He got in the van and drove it to a friend's house. The televisions, a laptop computer and a jewelry box were left behind and the confused burglars ran away.

9/11 Widow Dies In Plane Crash

Beverly Eckert who strangely enough was widowed when her husband died in one of the 9/11 buildings at New York City, has herself died in a blazing plane crash. The crash happened Thursday at about 10:30 PM in northern New York State. Eckert was traveling to Buffalo to celebrate what would have been her late husband Sean Rooney's 58th birthday. "The fact that it was a plane crash, it was fire, it was reminiscent of 9/11 that way, that's just very difficult," said Carol Ashley, a retired schoolteacher from Long Island whose daughter died at the World Trade Center. Obama, speaking in the White House's East Room Friday, said Eckert "was an inspiration to me and to so many others, and I pray that her family finds peace and comfort in the hard days ahead." Beverly Eckert was 57.

Out Of Gas, Out Of Luck

When a man in Florida decided to rob a Cape Haze gas station he forgot something. He forgot to fill up his get away car. The 23-year-old man allegedly robbed the station with a large knife and then drove away. Someone on a newspaper route told police that a man matching the robber and the description of the car was out of gas not far away. That man was soon arrested and charged with robbery with a weapon, loitering and prowling.

911 For Lemonade

A 66-year-old man was arrested in Florida after calling 911 to complain that a fast food restaurant was out of lemonade. A police report alleges that after threatening an employee at the drive-through saying he would call the police for not getting his drink, the man called 911. He is also reported to have stayed on the line with the 911 dispatch for about 5 minutes concerning the lemonade.

Prisoner In Mich. Judge's Trunk

A local newspaper reported that a 16-year-old boy had vanished Friday after appearing in juvenile court in Mount Clemens, Mich. on a probation violation. Deputies searched for about an hour until a security officer saw a picture that had fallen to the ground outside the judge's car. A deputy checked the car and found the boy in the trunk.

60 and 72-Year-Old Moms Of Twins

A 60-year-old woman in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada has given birth to twins following a trip to India for fertility treatments. The twins, both boys, were seven weeks prematurely delivered by Caesarean section. The woman was originally from India so she traveled to that country for in vitro fertilization using donor eggs. She had been refused the treatment in Canada because of her age. A Canadian news company said the woman had tried many years to get pregnant but had miscarried three times. A US news service reported in July of last year that a 72-year-old woman in India, who already had five grandchildren, gave birth to twins after in vitro fertilization, making her the world's oldest mother.

Couple Strolls Naked

A young couple turned heads and attracted dozens and dozens of camera clicks in Singapore. A witness, Terence Chia told a newspaper that he seen the couple disrobing at a stairwell near where they walked naked. He said, "Then, clothes in hand, they coolly walked in their flip-flops toward the market. There were more than 200 people and everyone was taking pictures. Even women were busy clicking and people were cheering, whistling and applauding like crazy."

Fire Station Burns

Japan- A Nagoya City Fire Department fire station caught fire when a cook range was left unattended. In a rush to get to a fire call, one firefighter left the range on. Ten fire trucks from other stations put out the fire. A local fire official, Seiji Hori was quoted as saying that they would probably be ordering in for dinner from now on.

Gold From Sewage

A sewage treatment plant in Japan has a high amount of gold in its waste. It has been said that the large amount of gold could be coming from the large number of precision equipment manufacturers in the Suwa area. Many of these manufacturers use gold in the components that they make. The Suwa plant incinerates waste coming into it and recently found 1,890 grams of gold per ton after burning.
