Singer Murdered After Denying He Was Dead

Mexican singer Sergio Vega was murdered while on a national tour at the weekend, just hours after denying reports of his death, local media reported.

The 40-year-old singer, known as El Shaka, was driving his red Cadillac to a concert in the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa on Saturday when his car was intercepted by unidentified shooters in a truck, reports said.

His murder came just hours after he told entertainment website La Oreja that online reports of his death were wrong.

"It's happened to me for years now, someone tells a radio station or a newspaper I've been killed, or suffered an accident," said Vega.

"And then I have to call my dear mum, who has heart trouble, to reassure her."

Fans posted condolences on Twitter after they learned of the death of the singer, who recently boosted his security following the killing of several Mexican musicians.

Musicians performing narcocorridos, or songs celebrating the lives of drug barons, have become the targets of rival drug gangs in Mexico with Mexican media reporting several such deaths in recent years.

For sale- Village With Pub

Stressed-out city executives looking to get away from it all have the chance to buy their own rural village in New Zealand, complete with a pub and population of 40.

Otira, a hamlet on the rainy west coast of New Zealand's South Island, is on the market for $NZ1 million ($715,000).

Current owners Bill and Christine Hennah bought the rundown village in 1998 after passing through and "feeling sorry for it," Christchurch-based newspaper The Press reported on Friday.

They paid $NZ80,000 ($56,000) for the hotel or pub, school, railway station, town hall and 18 houses making up the village near the Arthur's Pass National Park that dates back to 1923.

The village developed when the Otira railway tunnel was opened, and during its heyday was home to about 600 workers and their families.

But the couple, now aged in their 60s, say they no longer have the energy to run the hotel. They are asking $NZ350,000 for the hotel or $NZ1 million for the whole lot.

"We need someone to build it up again. There is a lot of potential and opportunity," Christine Hennah told The Press.

Gas R Up

A man in Wisconsin faces charges for using gasoline to "clean" up his apartment. After doing his cleaning of cushions and such, the man tossed a lit cigarette into the newly "cleaned" items. When a fire then started he shouted "fire" and walked to the police department. He was later treated for burns and left at least eleven other tenants homeless from the fire.

Strangest Fuel Additive

Victor Harris, of Saginaw, Michigan, was pouring a fuel additive into his SUV Thursday when a piece of paper fell into the gas tank. Harris tried to fish the paper out, but his index finger became stuck in the gas tank fill spout. WJRT-TV reported Harris tried to extract his finger by himself for two hours before some friends called the fire department. It took two more hours before emergency workers could cut the gas tank spout out of the vehicle. Doctors then feed his finger from the gas spout. Harris also needed two stitches to repair his finger.
